Foodthink is Hiring Summer Interns

1. Continuously track developments in the international food and agriculture sector, including issues such as international trade and food and agriculture policy, and organise the latest information and research updates.

2. Collect, read and translate English-language materials, including academic papers, media reports, policy documents and industry reports, and assist the editorial team in organising content and extracting key information.

3. Take part in story planning for Foodthink’s international issues, and assist the editorial team with translating and editing articles, organising background materials, and providing in-depth content support.

4. In response to editorial needs, help with background research before content interviews, fact-checking and supplementing information.

1. Solid English reading skills, with the ability to independently read English-language media reports, academic papers and policy documents and accurately extract key information.

2. Good Chinese writing or translation skills, with the ability to turn specialist reports into articles that a general audience can understand.

3. Strong information retrieval and material organisation skills, the ability to use AI tools to improve work efficiency, an understanding of AI’s limitations, and the ability to avoid errors caused by AI.

4. An interest in issues such as food, agriculture, the environment, labour, trade and public policy, and a willingness to follow them over the long term and develop a deeper understanding.

5. Strong learning and comprehension skills, a solid grasp of both international issues and local conditions, sensitivity to the relationship between domestic and international affairs, and a willingness to understand how international changes affect real people, land and production.

6. Conscientiousness and patience, a strong sense of responsibility, basic fact-checking awareness and content sensitivity.

7. Experience in media writing, translation, compilation or research is preferred.

1. Assist colleagues in the editorial and research departments by collecting and organising materials, including Chinese- and English-language academic papers, media reports, policy documents and industry reports, and by fact-checking, organising content and extracting key information.

2. Take part in topic planning for Foodthink’s small and medium-sized research projects, and assist the research department in completing preliminary desk research.

3. Support the research department in carrying out fieldwork and organising notes.

1. Take part in the day-to-day operation of Foodthink’s WeChat Channels account, handling the full production workflow, including video editing, cover design and copywriting.

2. Take part in planning Foodthink’s short-video content, identifying and creating content suitable for short-form video from events, interviews, the editorial team’s day-to-day work and the issues Foodthink covers.

3. Based on project requirements, assist with the filming, editing, packaging and distribution of relevant content.

1. An understanding of the rules and mechanics of video platforms such as WeChat Channels, Douyin and Bilibili, familiarity with the dynamics of short-video distribution, a good feel for what works online, and the ability to spot trends and create content that fits the account’s tone.

2. Familiarity with tools such as Jianying, Photoshop, Premiere and Final Cut, and with how subtitles, covers, titles and other short-video elements are packaged; an ability to use AI effectively, with filming skills a plus.

3. An interest in the issues Foodthink covers, such as food and agriculture, the environment and labour.

4. A degree of information sensitivity, and the ability to distil long interviews or complex content into a short-video angle with strong dissemination value.

5. Attention to detail, diligence and patience, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to deliver work on time.

6. Prior experience in video editing or account operations; candidates with relevant work samples or internship experience are preferred.

5. Studying a related field, such as journalism, communication, advertising, photography, film, Chinese, agriculture, environmental studies, sociology or anthropology.
