New Year Prize Survey | 100+ Events, 25 Books — Have You Learned to Eat Well?

● In 2022, 50+ guests took part in our events (the image is not exhaustive).

Dear readers, happy New Year!

Over the past five years, exploring topics in food and agriculture at every level of depth, Foodthink has published 486 original articles. Their content crosses the urban–rural divide and breaks through disciplinary barriers, covering nearly 20 topics, including food and agriculture policy, rural development, organic agriculture, cooperative economics, food safety, nutrition and health, and culinary culture.

We have also organised 60+ sharing sessions, 70+ book club discussions, as well as film screenings, workshops, courses, and farmers’ gatherings. In all, we have read 25 books and connected with over 100 guests. We have sought out frontline producers working in ecological agriculture, academic researchers in related fields, members of public-interest organisations and social organisations, everyday consumers… sharing discoveries and stories from the fields, studying books and materials together, or tracking the latest research and records.

● In March 2022, veteran rural community worker Huang Yajun shared at Sanyuanqiao Jishi in Beijing his observations of rural life in communities across several southern provinces over the years, as well as the challenges facing rural development.
● In June 2022, we read the new book Tu Li Bu Tu Qi by Changjiaoling and Wenzizi together with many “Friends of Nature”.

Our online community brings together participants from our events over the years. Beyond lively discussions, members share food from all corners, encourage one another, and when we are fortunate enough to meet in person, we work the land together, cook meals, and exchange seeds and books.

In 2022, for well-known reasons, opportunities to host in-person events were genuinely limited. Most of Foodthink’s events moved online, and in addition to Tencent Meeting, we added WeChat Channels live streaming to make it easier for everyone to book in and simply click to watch. All events were also recorded and uploaded to Foodthink’s bilibili account for easy replay.

For every event, we spend a great deal of time on preparation, striving to do our very best in book selection, topic design, and guest invitations. However, on the one hand, resources, time, and energy are limited; on the other, we have not yet gathered any feedback from participants.

If you have attended any of our events, we would be grateful if you could spare a few moments to complete the survey below. Your responses will help us improve the quality and experience of our events.

We will also select five of the most constructive survey responses and send a little gift—a set of the Nature series tableware from Douban.

In the new year, let’s carry on eating well! Come and join the Beijing Fengnianqing New Year’s series of events, now underway, and kick off 2023!

About the Beijing Fengnianqing

In 2022, we hope to bring together more partners across Beijing to co-create the Beijing Fengnianqing across sectoral boundaries, and to showcase within it the beauty of diversity in living, production, and life—food produced under different cultivation methods, the rich variety of heritage crop varieties and the stories behind them, diverse lifestyle choices…

Although for a number of reasons this year’s in-person events could not go ahead, we will coordinate with several partners and organisations to host a series of online events from 22 December to 15 January, exploring themes of diversity and sustainable living.

Please follow Foodthink’s official account for the latest event news! We hope that “Fengnianqing” will allow people carrying “diversity” to meet and connect here, and at some future moment, take action together.
